Lauren in Ireland sent us this progress report after her son, Olgen, has been using the CoordiChild program for 4 months:

Hope you are keeping well. It is hard to believe Olgen is 2 months into the program, he’s still loving it and it complements his OT perfectly. Even though we went on a week’s holiday the program along with yoga ball came also. I know you asked me to touch base with you around the 4 month mark the program to chart his progress, however I have to say already we have noted changes.

Firstly, for over a year we tried to get Olgen to use his left hand on right foot and vice versa, he now does it with ease so much so it’s his party piece when his nan or aunties visit. He has a little friend who loves to show off and he couldn’t do the exercise Olgen got great satisfaction in showing his friend how to do it. It’s the small things that build their confidence, truly amazing.

Also we noticed his fixation and eye tracking is a lot better, his balance has improved especially when bending over he doesn’t topple over, we play skittles where Olgen has to throw a ball between his legs whilst bending over. His learning has improved but more over his remembering has increased can’t wait for school to really see the progress, he has more upper body strength when rolling on the yoga ball, can push himself forward and backward occasionally he looses balance but the good news he self corrects and off he goes again for much longer period of time.

Your program is so specific and detailed, as I have already said its working wonders on Olgen, so a heartfelt thank you, you are truly amazing I just wished we had more OT’s like you to implement this program.

CoordiKids (CoordiChild program) is a wonderful program for busy moms needing the most stimulation in a record time for all her kids at one time. The exercises only take 10 – 15 minutes a day but the benefits are endless. Besides the fact that your kids have your undivided attention for 15 minutes, which makes them feel very secure, the exercises benefit them at intellectual and physical levels. I use the exercises for my 6 and 3 year old simultaneously. The 3 year old can’t do everything yet, but enjoys it so much. You can also see clearly where there are areas you have to work more at or get some professional help. It is very easy to follow the exercises and it is explained very well. My children enjoy watching the videos and doing the exercises. The program works great because you don’t have to do all the fortnight’s exercises in the two weeks, you can split it up if your child can’t manage all of them. The previous week’s exercises stays on your profile for two years, so it is easy to go as fast or as slow as you and your kids want to. This also means you can take a break from exercising when they need it. Logging into the website is also very easy and you get an email to remind you of new exercises on your profile. I can really recommend Coordikids to all parents who take their children’s stimulation & general wellbeing seriously

Even in today’s modern world many children are still experiencing problems with their Sensory Motor Skills. These problems impact negatively on their academic performance and on their emotional wellbeing.

I have recently been introduced to the work being done by Coordikids. Their innovative way of using online intervention to overcome the problems caused by poor Sensory Motor Skills is a great solution.

I have been using the CoordiKids program with my children for almost a year now and can’t praise it highly enough. My children, especially my younger child who struggles with Sensory Processing, have thrived on the program. My younger child has increased his coordination tremendously as well as overcome a lot of his Sensory Processing difficulties.

The program is so easy, because each exercise is explained and demonstrated in a video, which makes it easy for anyone to copy. In addition, there is a printable check-list of the exercises for each Lesson Block as well as the equipment needed (which are generally all household items). I found the lesson list particularly helpful when trying to organize, schedule and remember the exercises that we had to complete. With a busy schedule, having the list there in the kitchen reminded me to actually do the exercises with the kids as well as quickly being able to run through them in my head to see when we could make the time to fit them it during the day.

My younger child, who couldn’t cope with changes, new people, too much noise, too much visionary stimulation and who, due to an early childhood illness, was late in his motor skills development, is now happily going to school, playing in a soccer team, playing cricket, tennis and golf – in fact he’s become a bit of a sports nut – and has a hand-eye and general body coordination that I envy him for.

Thanks for a great program with CoordiKids, Ashton loves it! He has been so responsive and has even been asking to do it! He’s even been trying new foods in the last section, which is usually unheard of for him!He would never normally try mandarin, ham, yoghurt or nutella and yet he’s tried them all! He likes watching the demonstrations too and we do the exercises together. I have had no problem getting him to do any of the exercises, which I normally would. He usually avoids doing things that require too much planning or that he is unsure of. I can see it is helping him, in particular with his sport(he even got his first goal in soccer last night!!).One night we were running low on time and he had to go to bed, but pleaded with me to ‘Just do the rolling part!’ He just loves it! It is our time to spend together too.

I have been, and will continue to recommend CoordiKids to family, friends and colleagues as I can see how it can really help children with additional needs and who are experiencing problems at home and in the classroom.

Raising a child with special needs or learning difficulties isn’t easy. For the most part, parents and carers have to determine their own way through the minefield of therapies that promise to make a difference. As a mother of children with autism spectrum disorder, attention deficits, dyslexia, dysgraphia, visual processing and sensory processing problems, the path I navigated through a myriad of professionals was a journey of varying success rates. Although each one made a difference, there were two that stood out as being absolutely essential. The first giant leap came when we embraced dietary modification. The second was when we found Marga Grey!

Prior to meeting Marga, I had only a vague notion of what occupational therapy entailed and did not realise the extent to which a child’s emotional and mental development is intrinsically connected to their physical development. That first assessment session with Marga produced a stunning visual that revealed the ‘bricks’ in the developmental wall that are so vital for children to develop and achieve their full potential. It was clear to see how the missing ‘bricks’ in my children’s personal wall charts severely hindered their ability to make any significant progress.

One of those missing ‘bricks’ was ‘bilateral integration’. I had never heard of it before, but all those years it had been the culprit behind the fact that one of my children could not ride a bike and neither of them could tie shoe laces. There’s only so many times you can reasonably run up and down the street supporting your wobbling child on their bike before you run out of both physical and emotional puff. Similarly, there’s only so many times you can patiently teach a child how to make ‘bunny ears’ with shoelaces! After that, there’s got to be an underlying problem! Marga explained that without bilateral integration, it would never happen. She said that when the time was right, she would teach them how to do it in just one session.

Thus commenced an intense program of therapy, during which we attended regular sessions with Marga and diligently worked through exercises at home four times per day. Although it was demanding and often inconvenient, we persevered as it quickly became apparent that obvious progress was being made. One by one, those missing bricks were plugging the gaps in the wall.

I will never forget Mothers’ Day, 2011. We had planned a lovely picnic in the park, with the grandparents joining us to celebrate as well. My son brought his bike for another attempt. As we were walking into the park, he was pushing his bike. The next time I looked at him, he was riding! My husband and I watched in disbelief as he took off down the track and the grandparents quickly cottoned on to what amazing feat had just been witnessed. An hour or so later, he stacked it pretty badly and took a fair bit of skin off, but he was so ecstatic at being able to ride that he just didn’t care. No tears or anything. He just inspected the damage and said in a very matter of fact tone that everyone falls off when they’re learning to ride and that the feeling of the wind in his face while riding was worth it! The next day, I emailed Marga, expressing my incredible gratitude. It is moments like these, that so many other parents take for granted, that bring indescribable pride and joy to the parent of a special needs child.

As the bilateral integration brick fell neatly into place, Marga brought out the shoelaces and – true to her word – mastery of this ordinary, but important skill was achieved in mere minutes. The year marched on and, as each skill was mastered, the ‘bricks’ steadily took up their rightful places in the ‘wall’. At this point Marga recommended that the boys should join a group program being run by her colleague, Linda, so that they could consolidate their skills. They thoroughly enjoyed the friendship and the confidence that came with their new-found skills in this group.

As a parent, it was such a joy – and sheer relief – to watch so many problems that had plagued our everyday life, just melt away. The seams of socks, which had for so long been a source of angst and frustration, ceased to be a problem. The saga of getting shoes and socks on in the morning had finally become the simple, straight-forward task it is supposed to be.

One outcome which I hadn’t been expecting from therapy was a rapid improvement in maturity. I remember asking Marga in one session whether an obvious jump in maturity had anything to do with therapy. Nodding in fervent agreement, she said she had seen it so many times that she just had to believe that it was one of the benefits of therapy. My husband and I both swear that a 2 – 3 year jump in maturity was made in the course of 6 – 7 months!

This of course had wonderful flow-on effects – not only physically, but also academically and socially. Since their completion of Marga’s program, they have made rapid leaps with their learning and now rank among the high achievers in their respective year levels. They are rapidly transforming into confident, capable young men, ready to take on the opportunities available to them. There is no price that a parent can put on that sort of outcome for their child. The long term benefit of building a solid foundation that gives a child the best possible chance in life far outweighs any short term costs and is infinitely better than trying to add levels to a wall that is riddled with empty spaces.

I thoroughly recommend Marga’s therapy program to you to fill those gaps in the wall and give your child the best possible chance for future success. I know that I will always bless the day I found Marga and am sure you will too.

After a long period of seeing my daughter, Lil, struggling with many things that other children her age seemed to do automatically, there was an incredible sense of relief when Marga informed me of Lil’s testing results. Not only did someone understand finally the problem and my concerns, but also offered strategies and treatment ideas that really did help Lil overcome her sensory motor integration problems, gross motor delay and low muscle tone. Most professionals and teachers did not seem to recognise the impact that these issues were having on Lil’s learning, physical abilities and general enjoyment. The changes that have occurred as a result of the treatment have happened gradually over time, and it is only now that I look back I realise that the issues that were causing me so much worry, stress and frustration are gone, and instead Lil is happy and confident, is much more positive in her approach and starting to form friendships that seemed very difficult to her before. She really enjoyed visiting Marga and her treatment sessions, and while the home programme was an additional commitment, seeing Lil’s progress through the stages was incredibly motivating and it was fun for us both.

Tom’s kindy teacher recommended we make an appointment with Marga as she had identified some sensory processing issues along with behaviour and social problems which we were already aware of. Tom had difficulty remembering people’s names and words to songs and recalling events that took place during his day. His attention span was limited and he had trouble focusing and staying on task. Tom’s speech was also behind that of his peers as were his fine motor and some gross motor skills.

Along with the sessions with Marga we did various exercises to coincide with Tom’s therapy. These included rolling on a fit ball, rolling on the ground, crawling, textural games and tactile games along with Brushing and Therapeutic Listening.

These exercises were easily incorporated into our day and Tom was happy to participate as they were done in a fun way and appeared to him as games and normal play.

The therapy for Tom was very beneficial. Over the several months we saw improvements in his behaviour, social interaction with others and his speech and communication skills improved. His memory recall improved greatly and he was able to tell us about his days at kindy, what he did and was singing songs back to us he learned in class which previously he was unable to. His attention improved and was able to stay focused for longer enabling him to complete activities and listen for longer without being as distracted. Tom’s fine and gross motor skills are now on par with his age group. Tom loved going to his therapy sessions with Marga, she always conducted them in a fun way for Tom and he always looked forward to seeing her.

Receiving fortnightly exercises would be beneficial as a reminder of what to do as it is easy to forget exercises and activities that have been discussed in the session once you get home.

As a toddler Ben presented himself as a curious toddler, but he was reluctant to touch or explore unfamiliar environments. He struggled with different sensations and lacked confidence.
Through the program we have seen significant changes in his behaviour over the past 12 months. He is more tolerant to touch, explores different sensations and has the confidence to investigate and engage his environment. He has broken away from his shell and takes risks.

We encouraged Ben in every way possible and worked through the exercises. This program has given him the tools to figure out his surrounding and to tackle the challenges thrown at him.
